RFQ - Imperial County Veterinarian Program

INTRODUCTIONThe County of Imperial, California, invites qualified veterinarians and final-year veterinary students to submit proposals for participation in the County’s Veterinarian Recruitment and Retention Program. This initiative specifically targets professionals with experience or interest in large animal or mixed animal (large and small) veterinary services.The County recognizes the urgent need for veterinary care in its rural and agricultural communities and offers financial incentives of up to $75,000 per year for five (5) years totaling up to $375,000 to support veterinarians who commit to practice in Imperial County.In addition, the selected participant will enter into a negotiated professional services agreement valued at up to $100,000 per year for up to five (5) years.The goal of this program is to reduce barriers such as student loan debt and startup costs while strengthening veterinary infrastructure in underserved regions. Selected participants must commit to full-time veterinary service in the County for a minimum of five years, with the option to renew for an additional five-year term.BACKGROUNDImperial County is home to a robust and diverse agricultural economy, encompassing extensive livestock operations and a growing companion animal population. However, access to veterinary services remains limited due to a shortage of licensed practitioners particularly those serving large animals.This RFQ is part of a strategic effort to attract and retain veterinary talent in the region, ensuring continued health and welfare for animals while supporting local producers and residents.
